Problem with Roland 3 zone cymbals

Postby gavoja » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:46 pm

Hi everyone,

I have trouble in getting to work my Roland CY-13R. According to Roland's spec, it's a piezo/switch/switch pad. It's got two outputs which are described bow/edge and bell and the cables that came with it are both stereo. I am plugging in bow/edge to, say input X in Megadrum and setting the bow type to 3way and edge type to switch. This way I have both bow and edge working.

The tricky part is to get bell working. There's a 3rd zone in the config available, but I still need to plug in the bell somewhere, say, to input Y. When I do that, the piezo switch in the pad will be sending whatever note is configured with that input.

So I get:
1. When hitting bow, the bow note is triggered for input X and bow note for input Y.
2. When hitting edge, the edge note is triggered for input X and bow note for input Y.
2. When hitting bell, the bow note is triggered for input Y only.

Perhaps I'm missing something? The documentation on Roland 3 zone cymbals is empty:
http://www.megadrum.info/content/settin ... one-cymbal

Appreciate any help.
Cheers!

In MegaDrum documentation for pads settings, http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings, it says:

Next screen ChXX: PadName->DualHead for Head/Bow input or PadName->Type for Rim/Edge inputs:

<Ch04: SnareH >
DualHead: Yes

For Head/Bow inputs: Can be set to No, Yes or 3Way.
If set to No, Head/Bow and Rim/Edge inputs are treated as separate pads.
If set to Yes, Head/Bow and Rim/Edge inputs are treated as parts of the same dual zone pad or as parts of the same 3 zone pad, e.g. Yamaha style 3 zone cymbals. See more about 3 zone pads below in BNote and BThreshold settings.
If set to 3Way, Head/Bow and Rim/Edge inputs are treated as Bow and Bell inputs of 3way pads, e.g. 3way Roland style cymbals, and the next Rim/Edge input is treated as an edge input of the same pad.

Apparently, I'm stupid. All I had to do is to disable Head/Bow for the next input.

Works like a charm now. Thanks!
