MegaDrum Manager preview

Postby dmitri » Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:46 am

Since MCT is lagging more and more behind, and because I'm bad at understanding others code I wrote MegaDrum Manager. Here is the preview version:
Code: Select all
deleted, see newer versions in later posts

It supports and requires MegaDrum with the latest firmware version. It misses some features, which I will implement soon, and it has bugs.

I think that more code is written for MegaDrum than for any other DIY-project :-)

I will check this app out as soon as I can. The UI layout could use some improvement.

I like that you can "Get" and "Send" portions, that you don’t have to retrieve the entire configuration in order to use it. Very nice tool, I'm eager to see the final release ;) .

As that you have always been open to request, I have one and I believe many MegaDrum users would benefit from this. Please make a separate tool that can be used as a diagnostic tool just for viewing real-time velocity, pedal, and positional-sensing data. If possible have it capable of running at the same time MegaDrum Manager is running without restricting MegaDrum Manager from executing it's "Get" and "Send" function. Such might require that the diagnostic tool be capable of receiving a "suspend" and "resume" command from the MG Manager, if you see where I’m going with this.

oooh sweet! after breaking the settings in my brandnew MD with MCT I will try out your tool asap! Keep on the good work, I really appreciate it!

edit: I tried to run your app with javaw.exe from JRE6 and got the message:

could not find the main class:
<path to MegaDrumManager.jar>
Program will exit.

Also +1 for Beans suggestion! :)

Funny, I've been doing the same thing (starting from scratch, requiring latest firmware), except I haven't produced as much code yet. I went with a more graphical/simplified approach to the settings and used PortMidi as backend. I'll probably work more on it now that the holidays are over, if only just as an excercise in Java, the MIDI protocol and a better understanding of MD's settings, but hopefully I can contribute something to the MD project as a whole.

I will post the source code after I consider MegaDrum Manager is ready for a release version.

Looks like the software fails on gathering any settings from the MD, so I didn't try changing any to avoid any fuckups I had with an old version of MCT. Is that one of the bugs still or am I doing something wrong?

I cannot say based on the description of the problem.
