Snare not always trigging

Postby jblain » Sat Aug 16, 2014 2:34 pm

On my drum set I have a home made hi hat. It works very nicely now, after a lot of megadrum tweaking, but I have an annoying problem.

If I hit my hi hat at the same time as I hit another piece (especially my snare), many times the other piece will just not trigger reliably. Even if I hit the other piece full force. When not hitting the hihat, other pieces work very well. What could be causing this ? Any ideas ?

Have a nice day

What is the ideal piezo voltage level for megadrum input ? I have access to an oscilloscope. Maybe this is the source of my problem ?

From what you are describing I would guess at crosstalk.

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.

As I understand it, xtalk is one trigger falsely triggering another (i.e. I hit the hihat and hear both hihat and snare). In this case it is the reverse

I hit both the hihat and the snare at the same time

Or

I hit both the hihat and kick at the same time and I only hear the hihat. The other trigger produces no sound ??!!

Yeah I get your logic there. I think what happens is that if MD receives 2 triggers simultaneously or within the retrigger value then one will be ignored.
Are they physically isolated?

If pads are mechanically isolated it is better to place them into separate XTalk groups.
If they are not mechanically isolated, place them into the same XTalkGroup and and starting with lowest XTalkLevel raise it on both inputs until crosstalk between both inputs stops. HighLevel must be properly adjusted on both inputs before that for crosstalk suppression to work correctly.

Ok I will check that Dmitri

BTW Can you tell me what the ideal piezo voltage would be in order to use MD input to the best of their ability ?

Unloaded piezo voltage can vary wildly and reach 30-60V depending on piezo size and design of a pad. People mostly use 27mm piezo but MegaDrum can work pretty much with any piezo.
