So with the minimal kit is that only controllable from the computer with mdm for adjusting curves and stuff?

The main board in Minimal, Basic and Full kits is exactly the same. You can control it with either MDM or using buttons/LCD but since the Minimal kit comes without any external components (buttons, LCD, cables) you have to source them yourself if you want to control it using buttons/LCD.

Also

I couldn't see a price for minimal arm based board on its own ( might just be me )

In viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1420 it says:

ARM based Minimal kit with extended EEPROM - 110GBP plus postage

And lastly.

I have a feeling the problem with mine is the main ic is this something you can offer replacements for ? So that way I know if I get it working and some thing goes wrong later down the line I can still get stuff for it.

Are you after Atmega644 with the protected bootloader? Then see viewtopic.php?p=21010#p21010
