Feature Request -Extra Hihat openness levels for "Pot" Ctrl

Hi there, just wondering whether or not anyone on here would be interested in seeing some extra hihat opennes levels implemented in a future firmware release?

Dmitri suggested I post the question here on the board to gauge the level of interest.

Currently there are 5 different levels that can be set going from 'Closed" to "Open". I'm suggesting that at least two more levels are available so that 7 or so HiHat articulations can be assigned in programming.

The settings would be used when a "Pot" type hihat controller is set. CC4 messages are not used in this case and the appropriate drum software needs to be told what notes to play as opposed to working it out itself based on CC4 messages.

Software such as Native Instruments Studio Drummer and Abbey Road Drums doesn't do a good job of using CC4 messaging to play hihat articulations so one has better performance using a "Pot" type controller. Currently only 5 of the articulations can be called upon using Megadrum and adding at least 2 more openness settings and corresponding note programming areas would then allow all 7 articulations to be programmed.

The Notes could be called "Closed Tight", "Closed" "Semi Closed", "1/4 Open", "Half Open", 3/4 Open" and "Open" with the "Open" setting just the HiHat note value programmed into the "HihatB" note value area of Head/Bow settings.

Two Extra "Level" areas in addition to the existing four would need to be added in the "Level" area of the "Hihat Pedal" section.

Is there anyone here who would like to see this functionality added?

Yes, I have. Studio Drummer with 7, and Superior Drummer with 8.

I'm not against expanding it to include more levels of openess. Your right, there are more levels than you can assign in Megadrum currently, but even in SD2, the amount of these open levels vary between different SDX, let alone different VSTs. You would run into situations where some MIDI notes would be unassigned between kits. But Megadrum is all about options so I say why not have more!

On the subject of hi-hat feature requests; I'd like to request a user changeable timeout on blocking triggering from the hi-hat bow zone after a chick note. For those of us with moving hi-hats that want to run lower thresholds.

It's a constant (about 6 to 12ms) after the chick. A situation of guaranteed cross-talk that I'd like to eliminate manually by telling Megadrum the circumstances of when to just ignore the input, simple!

I have just posted the same question about more levels for specific hi hat notes, I'm sorry I should have searched to find this post first. I am using Kontakt for some drum libraries and this program does not have the capability to have the user control CC4 hi hat like Superior Drummer or others do. It would certainly open up options for others using libraries with the same limitations.

Also, I too have been looking for some way to fine tune hi hat chick's and eliminating an actual hi hat trigger at the same moment with my VH-12...I cannot prevent it from happening.... So those with realistic (moving) hats can get the same quality as those with, say the VH-11.

+1 for more hihat note splits in pot mode. Apart from the various kits that have more than 5 articulations in kontakt I am coming accross limitations in SD2 where the response or levels between articulations in the trig version of hihat are badly programmed and are not editable. But currently the level of articulation detail still beats doing by md split note.

Tried Matt Halpern Drums recently; 7 hi-hat levels (tip and shoulder notes) and no ability to use CC 4.

We need those extra levels.

Just wanting to chime in that a manual timeout/threshold setting would be very useful indeed!

I was just battling with this issue today, having to raise bow threshold very high (up to 80) on a Yamaha cymbal to get rid of false bow hits following chicks. And yet they still sometimes do happen.

I've got the cymbal attached to a real hi-hat stand and use a hall sensor + magnet under the pedal. I've been able to reduce post-chick vibrations a little by placing a felt pad between the cymbal and stand but obviously the contact point between the cymbal and the stand at closed position can't be too soft/bouncy (messes up the feel and also makes the low level jump around depending on foot pressure).

Yep, I'd love to see this implemented, would really open up the hi-hat expression for a lot of software packages.
For the time and effort needed to put in new features like this, I'd be more than happy to make a donation to help bring it to fruition.
This is the best by far, drum module money can buy and not burn a hole in your pocket. I think it's only appropriate the guy who designed and laboured over this thing and continues to do so be appropriately compensated by those of us calling for new features. Or not appropriate, I don't know, not intending to offend here but it seems like common sense to me.
