where to plug in hi hat controller on 56 input unit

Postby bladelawless » Thu Dec 15, 2016 4:10 pm

I have a Pintech HHC RYC variable hi hat controller, wondering which input should be used to plug it in.

Any HiHat controller must be plugged into the first jack - leftmost in the top row looking from the back.
If the HiHat controller has standard (Roland) polarity then you can use a standard stereo cable. If the HiHat controller has reverse polarity (like Yamaha) then you have to use a crossover cable - tip->ring and ring->tip.

I'm not sure I understand what kind of cable you are referring to. Does this mean I need a stereo to dual mono splitter?

Is your controller with reverse polarity? If yes then you have to use a cable where tip from the first end goes to ring on the second end and ring from the first end goes to tip in the second end.

not sure if it's reverse polarity. nothing in the documentation I received with the controller and nothing on Pintech's website. I just emailed Pintech support and I am awaiting a reply.

So, if it is reverse polarity, I'll have to rewire one end of the cable. Got it. I'll have to wait til I find out what the polarity is before I go any further with hi hat calibration.

sorry, it was confusing since this is what is labeled as socket #1 on MDM. I just did some searching in the forum for something else and ran across a thread that confirms hi hats should be plugged into socket #1 and other user's MDM's have socket #1 labeled as hi hat controller. Is this is glitch in my version of MDM? I downloaded the latest version.

I guess you mix up jacks numbering with inputs numbering. Jacks numbering is in http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtop ... f=3&t=1393
A HiHat controller uses jack 1.
Input 1 (Kick) is in jack 2.
Inputs 2/3 (HiHat) are in jack 3.
Inputs 4/5 (Snare) are in jack 4.
and so on.

yes, the input names on MDM are confusing. Is there any way to rename them? Right now I have a hi hat controller plugged into jack 1, hi hats into jack 3, snare into jack 4 and a ride in jack 5. but using jack 14 for left kick and jack 15 for right kick because I have two bass drums and I like to keep things organized. I want to rename the input names in MDM so I don't have to try to guess or remember what I have plugged into each jack while making adjustments in MDM.

ok, I copied a hi hat pedal setting from a file I found on the forum and I finally got a hi hat pedal reading from the midi log. if my pedal is reverse polarity, should I be seeing this pink bar indicating that the pedal is open? the pink bar on the midi log does go up and down when I press on the pedal.

You can rename every input in MegaDrum.
If the pink bar is going up/down when you release/press the pedal then it is working correctly with cable you used.
