Hi! Just for fun...i bought a 2,8" TFT screen...

Postby angr77 » Tue Jun 27, 2017 9:54 pm

Because I saw that you had added that to the SKU list...I had a working 1.8" TFT installed on my MegaDRUM...so I just thought about making a nice upgrade...

So I bought a TJCTM24028-SPI (ADAfruit) and it uses the ILI9341 standard...and just transferred the connections from the old LCD. When powering up the new 2.8" LCD it uses about 1/4 of the screen and it is mirrored. :-)

I was looking on the best source of MegaDRUM info... The manual...but it only shows how to connect the 1.8" screen. Dmitri - any good hints? Or have you written about the 2.8" somewhere else?

No hurry...answer when you get time...

Best regards

Sorry!

I found the solution in a nice post from ignotus!

If you look at page 3 of this thread I describe how I got mine working. You just have to follow the same pin order as for the ST7735 screen shown in the manual, except for the LED pin, which goes to pin 15 instead of pin 3 on the header. You also have to bridge pins 11 and 12 instead of 13 and 14.

And it work just great!

It is in the kit's instruction manual:

@angr77: Do you have a couple of pictures of that LCD working with your MD-device?

Glad you got it working!

I'm happy with the 2.8" screen (much easier on the eyes than the 1.8"), but I can't leave things alone and sometimes consider trying one of these. They also use the ILI9341 standard and are 320x240, so I suppose that in theory they could be made to work, but what scares me are all the pins on the 3.2" screen... Does anyone know what the pin connections to the MD board would look like or if it is even possible?

I think I can fix a few pictures - It is just a short test...I was tempted to repackage my MD in a new nice form factor. (I have a 19" rack today)

Hi!

I am also tempted to utilize the touch part of the screen... (XPT2046 for touch driver)...that would have been something! :-) Split the screen into 4-5 areas to be able to navigate the MD instead of real buttons.

Samething with the attached SD card...it would have been a nice feature to save and load settings from the SD card...(Yes..I know...what is the real benefit..?)

Best Regards

Here is a few pics of my module with the larger screen (thanks to ignotus wiring tips). The PCB to the right is my hand made Headphone amplifier

My next task is to put a touch screen on top of the module to see the midi bars and to stop and start my play along tunes
