Your pads (snare, toms, floor) need fine tuning for shure.
One way are resistors, but you can tune your pads with changing height of foma cones, also different cones material can reduce or increase sensitivity of pads (softer/harder). I used this method cose my snare was to much low sensitive, so I increase pressure of cone and that was a goal. Now snare works way better and I have full/long dynamic range. Reducing height of cones cooled toms 2.

I think I would go with a fixed resistor instead of the pot just for securitys sake. What is the gain setting on the snare?
