3. Set HiLevel to 800
4. Set CC RdcLvl to 3
5. Set Big VU Meter to Yes

Exit the menu. With the pedal fully depressed (open) the pedal VU meter (top big VU meter) should be filled all the way to the right, isn't it?

Yes, it is.

1. Does the VU meter change?
2. At what pedal pressure position (3/4, 1/2, 1/4 of fully open) does the VU meter start to change?

Yes. 0% being fully open and 100% being fully closed, it shoots all the way to the left at about 15%.

dmitri wrote:2. Does it change in steps (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ... steps) or gradually?

2 steps. Fully open to fully closed.

dmitri wrote:3. Does the VU meter go all the way to the left when the pedal is fully pressed (closed)?

Yes.

dmitri wrote:4. Any other observations in relation between the pedal position and the VU meter?

Just that there is no dynamic range between fully open and fully closed. Just closing at about 15% of the way down.

If you have a multimeter, can I ask you to measure the resistance between tip and sleeve when:

1. Pedal is 100% (fully) open.
2. Pedal is ~60% open.
3. Pedal is ~20% open.
4. Pedal is ~10% open.
5. Pedal is ~5% open.
6. Pedal is 0% open (fully closed).

Hmm... you may have found something interesting here...

There is no readable resistance between tip and ring until the pedal is fully down (closed). It reads approx. 12k ohm. Fully open, I'm guessing around 2000k... my meter doesn't go that far...

However - between Tip and GROUND...

1. 1400k
2. 16k
3. 15k
4. 14k
5. 12k
6. 11k

So, there seems to be much more dynamic resistance between tip and ground, and not tip and ring. Im guessing maybe they should be swapped.

I swapped ground and neutral hoping the dynamic resistance would give better results within MD, but it is responding the same way. No dynamics between open and closed...

If I had payed attention I would have noticed. Nicholas said this about tip-ground in the very first post :-/

Thank you for this information, when I get around to posting my results I'll take this all into account but I believe my results are similar to other VH12's

Roland VH12

Measured gap between hats where the arrows are = 10mm
Measured gap between hats from either side = 13mm

HiHat Pedal settings

Type ->Foot Control
Curve->Exp1
HiHat Input->2
Alt Input=Yes
Reverse Levels=No
Soft Chicks=No
Auto Levels=Yes (For Calibration Only)

Chick Delay = 0
CC Number = 4
CC reduction Level = 3

-------------------------------------------------------------

I get 889 for the hi level

I get 315 for the low level

This was for Hi Impedance

Without the resistor added.. Still get better response currently with the resistor becayse the response is smoother
-------------------------------------------------------------

Still low impedance is useless, This appears to be just a hi impedance range device - do well all agree that the low impedance is no good for the VH12 for now and that you need the alt input = yes with the hi switch in the low position?

------------------------------------------------------------

Will look further into this, and I agree you can't use a meter on the tip-ring only tip-sleeve

This is exactly what I asked - between tip (output) and sleeve (ground)
1. 1400k
2. 16k
3. 15k
4. 14k
5. 12k
6. 11k

There is a jump between 100% and 60% from 1400k to 16k. Can I ask you to measure resistance:

1. at 80% open
2. between ring and sleeve.

With your results I will build a mock "VH-12 pedal" out of resistors to come up with a solution/right settings.

I apologize, I guess I need to pay more attention to what you are saying in detail!! :?

1. 1400k
2. 16k
3. 15k
4. 14k
5. 12k
6. 11k

At 80% the resistance is reading about 18.5k

I also want to note, fully open registers above 2000k actually, i got a reading of 1400k because my finger was touching TIP while metering.

Also, fully closed is between 10-11k, but with applied pressure after that point (used for tight hat sounds w/ Roland) I can get to 8k. That's with me pretty much standing on the pedal though.

ibanman555, I'm going to publish a new firmware version to help to track the issue. Will you be available tonight to test it?
