Any way you can post a picture of the populated PCB? Just a nice reference to make sure we get everything right lol.

Also the LCD uses 16 pins but the ribbon cable included only has 14 wires.

It's a terrible mistake ... my store was wrong and I have not checked ...

Yeah I tried to go to radioshack today and buy a 16wire ribbon but they didn't have any at all. I guess I'm going to have to order one or something.

If you have old IDE cables you can use those, just count off 16 strands. IDE cables are used for connecting Hard Drives and Disk Drives. If you don't have any, one of your 'nerdy' friends will, I have a shoe box overflowing with them...

EDIT: Woo Big Image was going for something more subtle. It's a christmas tree with a star on top made from string and an IDE cable.

Yeah that's what I did.

First time I started it up with LCD connected I saw Megadrum something or other on the LCD, then it went to just a row of blocks. Now everytime I plug it in its the same thing? All blocks no words not even Megadrum when it starts up. Windows see's it just fine, the megadrum control program can send stuff to it and everything as well.

Ok nevermind, looks like the LCD is working properly now...maybe some kind of burn in or something had to take place? I don't know but I didn't change anything haha.

i have the exact same problem sometimes.
i just plug-unplug a couple of times and voila! it works again.

apperently it's an LCD-thing, cause everything else is working fine (as you mentioned as well).

For those who are wondering, the components must be located on the side of the top white silk screening.
You just need soldering on the bottom side.
Holes on the pcb are copper coated to connect both sides of the board.

Also with proper soldering the solder should go all the way through the hole to the other side :)
