I'm sorry to tell this but I have to suspend all MegaDrum development and support for some time while I'm trying to track down all announcements by a person selling MegaDrum without my permission and persuade owners/moderators of involved forums to remove these announcements.

If you understand Russian you can read details in viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1244 (or try to make sense of the google translation: http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... l=ru&tl=en )

Sorry to hear that Dmitri. I wish there was more I could do! Good luck with it!

Will Synthex's kits still be available in this time? Sorry to hear about this... unfortunately, there is always someone out there who tries to make money of other's ideas. Good luck hunting!

Sorry to hear about this dmitri. I didn't understand all that google translated. All in all, does he say that he's sorry for what he's been doing, but that he won't stop doing it?

He says he's very sorry but has to continue leeching for a month.

If this is the case I will probably have to think about encrypted firmware. As a result the MegaDrum project won't be free any more.

It is your work and you are completely free to do whatever you feel is right. Of course, in case of such a development the DIY part of the MD community would be shattered forever.

However, what I meant was that these leech guys usually do not surface (hence we do not know of them) in the form of other forum posts offering MegaDrums for sale. I gather this is the only case when someone really started replicating MegaDrums without your permission and posting about it elsewhere. I hope you will be able to negotiate with the forum's administration staff to stop these postings.

Dmitri, what I am doing with the FW for my DIY midi lights is selling the chip with the FW already on it. It will limit their ability to upgrade, but that way you can copy protect it. Sell the chip cheap enough that they can just purchase a new one to get the updated FW. It will still be a DIY project, but you protect your investment and keep an idea on who is buying/selling your product. If someone orders 20 at a time from you you can get suspicious. See what I mean?

Or maybe there is a way that you could sell each chip with it's own unique password. Then you could give them the updated FW with only the password for their particular chip. That may be more of a pain in the ass then you are willing to deal with. Just a thought.

Just some ideas, hope it helps.

I had hoped to continue without these extremes and for everyone to get updates as soon as they are out.
