Hi Megadrummers,

Here's an example on how MegaDrum found its place in a unique hybrid setup:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIJLb7QJkx8

There's a 52 mins supplementary video that explains the setup, which has a short section on MD, as a little gesture to express my appreciation to Dmitri for his continuous effort to develop a great product and provide high quality support which many big companies could only dream about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfZK3HQBd8g

The whole technical video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEGtHpOYHB4

Check out http://endre-enerd.com for more info on the project.

Dmitri, (I know you're away and will only be back by next week end) feel free to use any video or written material on the site for the MD page.

Pretty spectacular, I must say. Can I just ask, did you dismantle the control pads completely? Is that just the rubber blocks re mounted.

As I mentioned in the video, the CP electronics can "optionally be bypassed" if I use the D-Sub output. At first the onboard circuitry was completely disconnected, but later I decided to restore it as a backup, so now both MIDI and analog D-Sub outputs work simultaneously. But because the feature set of CP's onboard MIDI converter is rudimentary at most, I nearly always use its pads via MegaDrum.

Another modification which was not mentioned in the video was that the MIDI In also delivers the power for both the trigger-to-MIDI converter and the LED control electronics via a combined PSU+MIDI Thru box and a MIDI cable with all pins connected.

Fantastic video and post!

Is it the ATMega or the ARM based MegaDRUM device you are using?

Best Regards

I wasn't even aware of the ARM version until yesterday, it's a shame, but I'm too busy to check this site regularly. But now I must contact Dmitri about the ARM version, gaining 2ms does count a lot.

:D

I think you even could use the USB implementation instead of the midi connection mentioned on your nice video. The ARM based MegaDrum is running very smooth on USB and 12 MBit/s.

Question, you are using Ableton Live for the sequences, but what about for the rest in you setup...was these softwares commercial applications or custom built?

Best regards

I'll give it a shot, but in the past all USB-MIDI devices I tried were really dodgy, no matter how much they cost.

I posted a link in my original post to the full length technical video where I explain what the most important plugins do and how they work.

Everything is hosted by Live, the only external application is Bome's MIDI Translator, which is used to emulate some key commands for controlling Live in the looping setup.

All plugins are custom made M4L patches, the three most important ones are downloadable on my website. Because they're not meant for commercial use, most of them don't have very fancy GUI and some of them are quite difficult to set up, but they're absolutely bullet proof and require very low CPU.
