I am configuring a Yamaha PCY-135 (and a PCY-100).

I have adjusted Gain, Threshold, and BThreshold so that I have a satisfactory separation between the zones. However, the velocity for the notes that are sent for the edge and cup is too high. I am getting a very nice range from the bow, so I expect that I haven't gotten the switch part down quite right.

I just want to make sure that I am correct about what parameters will affect this velocity:

Rim/Edge
Compression
Level Shift
Curve


I didn't think that the Gain, High Level, or Threshold would be involved; those are used to figure out where the cymbal was hit.

I would also expect that Bow gain, threshold, and high level would ultimately be involved, but I wasn't going to mess with them because I am getting a very useful range off the bow.

Are there any other parameters I should be tweaking?

With Compression, Level Shift at defaults (zero), the main parameters to effect output MIDI velocity are HighLevel, Threshold and Curve. Read about them in http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings

I have been back and forth on that page, but it doesn't really explain how those settings work to develop the velocity for switch input notes. It's very clear for the piezo.

Curve seems obvious, but it doesn't really make any sense that I would adjust the switch input's thresholds as those are used to determine which (if any) switch is pressed.

I'll try playing with the high level tonight.

With Linear Curve:

1. Any signal from a piezo with level below Threshold doesn't produce MIDI Note On.
2. Any signal from a piezo with level equal to Threshold produces MIDI Note On with velocity 1.
3. Any signal from a piezo with level above HighLevel produces MIDI Note On with velocity 127.
4. Any signal from a piezo with level between Threshold and HighLevel produces MIDI Note On with velocity between 1 and 127.
5. Switch edge/rim inputs use piezo signals from bow/head to calculate MIDI velocity using Threshold and HighLevel settings of the edge/rim input.

OK, that makes sense. I will report back with my results.
