Zendrum LT finger drums

Postby beauford » Mon Nov 24, 2014 4:51 pm

Hi Folks,

I'm happy that I have recognized this nice forum! :)

I'm very new to this whole DIY drums trigger subject, but I'm quite enthusiastic about it! And I would be very glad if you helped me getting the main information together.

So now my project:
I would like to build a kind of USB finger drums trigger device like the famous Zendrum LT.

The first question that comes to my mind is:
What electronic hardware do I need for such a device? I think the buttons have to be quite velocity sensitive.

I appreciate your support!

Thanks and cheers,
beauford

Welcome,
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the piezo is what you need here.

Hi airflamesred,

Thanks for your reply!

Sorry for my rudimentary knowledge, but where do I have to start?

1) Do you recommend that I buy a certain hardware kit or shall I better buy every single component?
2) Is there maybe available - let's say - a "state of the art" hardware kit ready to be used for this kind of application? (containing module, cables, piezos, etc.)

Thanks!

A build similar to your pic there would need the following.
A MegaDrum - Available here and you can then build one with over 50 buttons.
Piezos - ebay very cheap.
A midi/usb sound source. The choice is endless.
DIY skills to make the item.
I don't know if there is a kit available but there is a zendrum forum so they may have more info. Good luck.

So do I understand you correctly that the piezos are not part of the MegaDrum you mentioned?

And it's there something specific to be considered when buying the piezos?

(Btw. My sound source is FXpansion BFD3.)

Megadrum is just a pcboard
http://www.megadrum.info/sites/default/ ... embled.jpg which you may be able to design your zendrum so that it could house the board and screen. All you need to do is wire the piezos to the desired inputs. I would be tempted to go with smaller (20mm) piezos as they might be cooler than larger ones. They are cheap enough to be able to experiment with.
