2Box Pad compatibility

Postby krickgpe » Wed Aug 19, 2015 7:24 am

Hi,
Can you tell me if 2Box pad and cymbals are compatible with MD?
Thanks.

Unless 2Box pads/cymbals don't use piezos for triggering, I don't see why the should not be compatible with MegaDrum.

Hi!

I'm interested in the answer for the foregoing question, because I'm not sure if the 3 zone cymbal design would be 100% compatible. According to the 2box manual (http://www.2box.se/download/pdf/DrumIt_ ... h_1.32.pdf pages 44-45) the design of 2box 3-zone cymbal is: Piezo/Switch/Velocity and Yamaha is Piezo/Switch/Switch. Would it make any difference in handling it with MegaDrum?

What is Velocity in the "Piezo/Switch/Velocity" context?

2box cymbals have a switch on the edge and a piezo in the bell. It basically switches from bow to bell notes according to velocity. AFAIK Megadrum doesn't support this.
If it ain't broken... fix it until it is.

True but it is possible to wire another input to the piezo and restrict the velocity curves.

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.

I've never had such cymbals so I cannot test it myself but I think you can configure such cymbals with MegaDrum:
1. Connect bow/edge to one jack and configure it as a dual zone piezo/switch.
2. Connect bell/edge to another jack and again configure it as a dual zone piezo/switch.
3. Put all zones into the same separate XTalk group.

I don't think you can do that because all you have is a single piezo (for bow and bell) and one switch (edge/choke) to work with. You can't connect bow/edge to one place and bell/edge to another because bow and bell are physically the same sensor.

I reckon this should work.

I don't understand. So it has only one piezo for both bow and bell?

Yep. One piezo under the bell. Bow hits produce a weaker signal that the module interprets as such, and direct hits on the bell produce a stronger signal. The module basically changes the bow/bell notes depending on the velocity - a light bell hit would result in a bow note.
