How hard would it be to add wave form visualization to MDMFX

Hello,

I'm building DIY drums for use with MD, and I need an easy way to view the waveform so that I can know how to tune the MD settings like minscan. I am an experienced software engineer, but before I invest my valuable time, does anyone know if this is a dead end? Any pointers? Has someone done this already and could share? This would be a valuable upgrade to the MD Manager experience, comensurate with the competition as well.
