It is possible to achieve under 5ms latency with a good sound card and proper ASIO drivers.

And remember, it takes 3ms for sound to travel 1m in the air. ;)

Hi all,

I finished building the main MegaDrum (v3.1) board last night. Plugged it into the USB and it worked the first time. I was (and still am) really happy to see it all come to life. :D

I've tested the Inputs on the board, all fine.
I've even upgraded the firmware, still all fine.

I have a question though, but it's not related to the main board. (As I said, that's all working 100%)

My question is about the 2 inputs boards (32 inputs and 24 inputs).
What is the correct way to attach the stacked jacks to these boards?
Do I really soldier all 12 pins of each jack to the board or is this a mistake?

I "guessed" that I should soldier all 12, but now the board doesn't work as everything is connected to everything.

This is the kind of situation where I would be only too happy to have someone tell me how wrong I am - just so I can get it to work.

Once I get it working I will post pics as others have.

Thanks

Good work !! :)

Yes, You must solder all 12 pins.
What is the problem ?

I do 2 tests, one with a piezo and one with a simple wire...

Straight on the main board - OK (so the main board connections are fine)
Plug my cable into the main board and test from the other end of the cable - OK. (So the cable is 100% too).
Plug the cable into the inputs board and test from the inputs board - FAIL.

If I do a multimeter closed circuit test on either of the inputs boards then any of the connections is linked to any of the other connections. Surely this is not how it should be?

On inputs board, you must use a jack into the stacked jacks connector.

It's 56 mono inputs.

1 input for HiHat pedal.
1 input for Kick pad.
27 stereo inputs (or 54 mono inputs).

It seems like I'm failing to explain in proper technical terms what is wrong.
Let me try again then. ;)

On the main board...
If you connect GROUND with TOM1 HEAD via a pad and then hit the pad then that causes TOM1 HEAD to play.
Ground and TOM1 HEAD are an open circuit. The pad closes the circuit with the piezo cap when it vibrates.

On the inputs boards the whole board is already a closed circuit for some reason.
I can't see how I could have built the complicated main board perfectly but messed up on both of the easy inputs boards. :?

I'm going to be taking apart the smaller of the two boards tomorrow and then testing bit by bit as I re-assemble it, then I will comment here about what I found.

It's normal.

OK, now we're getting somewhere. :D
I obviously have tested it with the jack many times already, so maybe I'm doing something wrong there.

Must it be a stereo jack or can it be a mono jack?
What's the proper way to test if it's working with a jack plugged in?

Thanks for your help so far. :)
