I have built MD,Now i want to test the inputs,How i do ?

Postby isque » Mon Apr 19, 2010 4:04 pm

Hi,everyone
I have built MD today,so exciting!
But now I don't have any pads,I want to test the MD inputs and MIDI actions with MIDI-OX and Cubase 5+Addictive Drums, via a piezo connect to each inputs. When i hit the piezo,VU-Meter on LCD can display the actions, can we think the MD device is works well? But in MIDI-OX and Cubase 5 can't detect any MIDI inputs.now i don't know how to test my MD is OK or not.Can somebody has a way to test the MD? Or leave a tutorial to config MD work with Cubase 5+Addictive,otherwise just a methord to test the MD device works well or not. Thanks!

That is cool! Nice job on fitting it in that tiny enclosure! To test your inputs you will need either a piezo transducer or a piezo buzzer.

Here is an example of piezo transducers: If you are not good at soldering, you may want to get the ones with wire already on them. You can find these in several items such as smoke detectors, kids toys that make sound and stud finders that beep.

Here is an example of what a buzzer would look like.

Hey Isque, Looking good

If you get VU meter response in every jack then you are most likely OK.

I believe you are asking how to get your Cubase running Addictive drums to respond to each test hit correct? First it sounds like your PC is not seeing your MD. Midi Ox should sense a signal input
so.. do you see MegaDrum in your equipment (device) list?

Yes,both Cubase and Midi-Ox can list MD device.I use the default settings with MD to test MIDI signal, but it looks like unrespond, maybe somewhere settings in these tow software incorrect,so i ask for the tutorial of the test methords.thank you StevieG!

Sorry man, I read your question too fast. Now that I looked back at the picture I see that you already had a piezo!

Hi Dmitri,I test my MeagDrum with MIDI-OX like this, i solder a piezo to a 3way Jack like the pic below,
Image
then open the MIDI-OX,open input/output monitor windows to detect MIDI event from MeagDrum while i hit piezo,VU-Meters on the LCD of MD can respond my hit,but MIDI-OX can not detect any MIDI input event.
Image
By the way i use the default settings to do that and try the all 17 jacks all the same.i open the all channels,is there need to set notes? And i can't send sysEx form MegaDrum to MIdI-OX,that's why?
Image
And i found when i touch the outermost metal frame of Stereo audio cable plug, all the VU-Metes block can respond,Am i solder the wrong way of cable?Look below, thanks!

How does the monitor status in MIDI-OX look like?
This is how it should look like:

You definitely connected something wrong. Seems like grounding problem.

How can i solve the grounding problem?I put the all items in a metal frame(a broken CD-ROM drivers).By the way, when i plug/unplug the 6.35mm audio cable to input jacks may loss the usb connection.
