Here's the Hall Effect sensor I think most of us have bought :

And if you look at the picture above, this is how it should be wired :
VCC (Power source) = Tip (Input 3 on Syntex kit)
Vout (output of the circuit) = Ring (Input 4 on Syntex kit)
GND (ground) = Sleeve (GND, Input 1 or 2 on Syntex kit)


Not sure Conrad sales everything you'd need. And for the rest it's up to you to find a way to fix the magnet and the sensor on your hi hat!

I have the same sistem of control with A1302 sensor

can you post it your configuration on megadrum?

I think I got the wrong sensor, it's a latching sensor. After reading a bit about it I found out that it works like a switch. Did I get the wrong part?

I've tried connecting it and doing a few test but I got no results.
I'll post more info if I know if I got the right sensor or not.

If it's not a continuous-time (linear) hall effect sensor it wont work.

Before considering the following links as good alternatives, I noticed there's a difference with "Magnetic Sensitivity over Operating Temperature Range" between A1302EUA-T (the sensor I currently own) and A1301EUA-T (the one you could easily find on the net).

A1302 : 0.85-1.75 mV/G
A1301 : 1.8-3.2 mV/G
:?: Would it make a big difference???

So, IF SOMEONE CONFIRMS that A1301's sensitivity is ok, then you can go ahead and order from one of the following :

If you have other parts to buy I guess it could be a good alternative

It would be nice with some MD pedal settings from those of you who have had success building this.

I can get fine readings on my multimeter but cannot get MD to respond to it.

I have build a HiHat with a A1302 and found these settings to work for me:

First under main settings I have set Big VU to yes, so I can see when I use the pedal.
My HH settings are:
type = f.contr
Alt in = Yes
LowLvl = 500
HiLvl = 705

I found these settings mostly by trial and error, so things might work different on your side.

what distances do u guys have between sensor and magnet with open/closed hihat? even when the magnet touches my sensor I can't get the hihat bar to move below middle...

Oh and I found another good source for magnets: www.magnet-shop.net
Shipping costs are better than supermagnete shop and they don't charge you extra for small quantitys. Also they have ring-magnets with a stronger field (N50). I will try of those for a different setup :)

If you have some form of movement, you should be able to adjust the range so it fits.
Can't you adjust LowLvl and HilLvl?

I guess I was lucky with the magnet, it's just a simple refrigerator-magnet.
In closed position it touches the house of the sensor, so I placed the sensor on a piece of soft rubber.
In open position the sensor and magnet is about 2cm apart.

I had a too large distance between the sensor and the magnet. Now with about 2cm to nearly touching the sensor it works after starting with clean HiHat settings and LevelsAuto On.

Regarding to this document you can have a max distance of 2cm with a N40 magnet (field strength).
I will try a N50 magnet soon to see if you can have larger distance there (=more accurate readings)

Today I finished my new Hall-Effect based HiHat.
This time I used a A1321 sensor which is more accurate (says the vendor) but smaller and therefor harder to handle. I found it most easy to put it on a small piece of development PCB. After all I covered it in hotglue to prevent shortcuts if the magnet touches the contacts.
I also used another Magnet which is rather small as you can see, but has the strongest magnetic field I could find (N52)
The max distance is a little over 2cm, so not a big change to the old setup with an A1301 sensor and N45 magnet. Overall it looks a bit more accurate and the big plus is you don't have to get the magnet so close to the sensor as with the old setup for a "fully pressed" (suppressed voltage?) level.
