hihat pedal input

Postby jerash » Wed Apr 04, 2012 10:42 am

Hello,
I've just finished putting everything in a nice enclosure, pictures to come soon.
But I still have one question about the HiHat Pedal input :

If i follow schematics, the "pedal power" pin goes to the jack's ring.
What if i put a mono jack on this input ? This will shorten the 5V to the ground, isn't it ?
Are there any risks of damaging the megadrum board ?

Your schematics :
Tip = pedal input
Ring = pedal power (output)
Sleeve = ground

What i did :
Tip = Pedal power (output)
Ring = pedal input
Sleeve = ground

What i did will work as i build my own hihat pedal, but is there any standard pinout ?

thank you for your answers,
raphael

If you connect the HiHat power source to the ground it will not hurt anything but the board will draw more power - 5V/100Ohm=0.05A extra current.

OK that's good news.
Today i had the Hihat input working, trying to deal with the dual piezzo leveling.
Already the playing sensation is very good, very musical !
So tomorrow i'll solder the hall effect sensor to open the hihat ! :mrgreen:

hello again, more question about the input.

I was able to make a simple on/off switch for this input but i needed to use a stereo jack.
Tip is pedal input, connected to one side of momentary switch
Ring is pedal power 5VDC, connected to the other side of momentary switch
Sleeve is ground, not connected
So this is working with the stereo cable as when momentary switch is pressed, 5V goes the the pedal input and is detected by megadrum.

But if i use a mono jack (or a regular korg synth pedal), nothing is detected by megadrum, as the 5VDC is shorted to the ground.

I'm probably missing something in the wiring or the megadrum configuration, could you help me get this right ?

If you use a simple switch MegaDrum can detect if the switch is on or off without pedal power - it can be shortened to ground (if you use a stereo jack with a mono cable) or not connected at all (if you use a mono jack).

All cable soldering in a good place
SOLVED by changing the Pedal Input AltIn value to Yes
was it mentioned in some document that i don't have read ?

Yes, it was. In "MegaDrum kit - instruction manual.pdf" from 56 inputs MegaDrum kit for sale and MegaDrum Configuration
Do you solder wires and configure MegaDrum by pure guessing?

lol of course no, i even put a sticker on each of the 56 cables before soldering them ;)
In fact I had downloaded the "Megadrum kit - instruction manual.pdf" as a reference when building the unit, it was ok.
But there wasn't any pdf file with the info of "Megadrum configuration", now after reading the whole thing, that's pretty easy to get all the options right :o Yes i missed that one... oups
So now i've made myself a pdf from your posts so i can read it even if the computer is not online, and that happens frequently when i'm doing music.

Thanks dmitiri, we're on a very good way. Pictures will come soon, and for sure i'll make a live video for our next show in the beginning of may.
