Another trigger zones question

Postby JRita » Wed Aug 12, 2015 2:44 pm

Hi. I've read and reread lots of topics, the manual a few times but still have a few questions.

I'm on the Yamaha side, and so I'm more used to the Yamaha configuration, so here are my questions about megadrum.

About the zones in Roland / Dual piezo mode, I can get head, rim and rimshot to different midi notes, understood; but is this only to the snare or to all triggers?

Also, is it possible to assign more than one note to each trigger zone? for example it is useful to trigger a kick in one note and a snare buzz on another, or ambience, or bottom mic... all related to the same trigger...

If so, is it also possible to assign different notes related to velocity, like 1% to 29% triggers XStick and 29% to 99% Rim Click? Related to the rim of a tom for example.
These features are available in the Yamaha brain so it can be assign, if I rebember, 9 sequencial alternate notes per trigger or 6 notes at the same time per trigger. Usefull to assign different samples to each trigger.

Anoter nice feature I think Yamaha exclusive is to send a different note when the cymbal is muted, this is nice since if the cymbal is muted by hitting it, it will trigger a different note/sound, to add cymbal realism. So is this possible with the Megadrum?

You can do it with any dual zone piezo/piezo pad on any input.

This is really should be done in a soft synth based on the note velocity received from MegaDrum. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe at least SD2 can do this.

This is not exclusive to Yamaha. MegaDrum can do cymbal muting either with a MIDI Aftertouch message or with different Note assigned for muting.

Thanks for your fast answer... I will have to think how to implement XStick and Rim Click on one rim and other articulations, but since there are many inputs on the MD, there are many options!

There are ways to do the things you have sggested, but I'm intruiged that if the Yamaha unit has all these features then why do you need a Megadrum.

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.
