where to plug in hi hat controller on 56 input unit

You can rename every input in MegaDrum.
If the pink bar is going up/down when you release/press the pedal then it is working correctly with cable you used.

I'd suggest you to read through http://www.megadrum.info/content/megadrum-configuration and about PadName->Name from http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings in this particular case.
If you do it from MDM (I did not try to hide it) it's there:

you misunderstood, I want to change the name of the input itself so it's customized to correspond with which input sockets each drum is plugged into.

sorry, I got it now, didn't realize I had to select the name from the MD unit.
