I'm sure you know how to connect devices but the way you were describing it did not provide that clear picture of this.
If you're so sure there is a problem with the module and not anything else, please send it back and once received I will send you a replacement straight away.

This is the connection. I can't imagine how to connect it otherwise.

The same was done in a desktop PC, the original one when I ran it.

Could the problem be in the "protected bootloader"? I understand it is installed in the module, and shouldn't be installed by me.

Since you see on the LCD:

FwSUpdaterSTM32d
StartUpdateOnPC

and MegaDrum is detected by a PC then the protected bootloader in the module is working properly. You cannot overwrite or read the protected bootloader.

I think the problem is either with not proper USB power on the USB port or, less likely, with a USB cable. When flashing a firmware MegaDrum draws more power (but within USB specs) and if it causes voltage drops on the USB port it may cause firmware update to fail.

I don't see how it can be avoided. I tried all the USB ports in my PCs, including the desktop computer and the laptop computer.
Apparently, the problem must be in the module. I see no other option, as it is detected by both computers but in neither case the firmware can be uploaded.

As I suggested, send it back and I will check if the module has a problem or not.
