I'd a same problem, and it resolved itself by resarting windows.

Yuhuuuuuuuu! my PC detected it!! as an USB Audio Device (no "megadrum" label anywhere?).

When you right-clic on it then select "properties", it's labelled "Megadrum"

I have just installed the atmega Synthex sent me.
(Atmega32-16pi) 16mhz

When I power one megadrum the LCD shows a row of squares.

I have now used ponyprog to write the lastest megadrum firmware
megadrum32_16_32_20080705.hex

I have set the fuses as the tutorial says. I programmed it. No errors. Then I read the atmega and I get exactly the same data as the .hex file of the firmware.

When I power on the megadrum I still get those damn squares in the LCD. When i power it, the LED blinks once, then the row of squares.

Do you know what is happening to my megadrum?

PD: I also had an strange issue. When I firstly booted megadrum with the received atmega, I had connected some pads, and the piezo of my hihat has started to buzz (maybe some current was flowing to the hihat). I then disconnected USB from the computer... uff, hope hihat is not damaged... Maybe it is due to the MAX4558 clones they gave me at my electronics shop... i have now installed the 74HC's and disconnected all the pads.

The Atmega that I sent you, was already programmed with the 20 MHz version (bootloader + firmware) !
Do you use a 16 MHz or a 20 MHz crystal ?

Check for short-circuit around the LCD and all the PCB.
Is your LED blink when you hit a pad ?

I have reprogrammed it with the last 16Mhz firmware because I have a 16.000 Mhz crystal.

I have tested connecting the snare to the snare input. When I hit it, I see activity on the LED. Does that mean that the atmega32 is well programmed and working? If so, where do you think it is the problem?

If you see activity on the LED, that's mean that the atmega32 is well programmed and working.
Have you checked the wiring of the LCD ?

There was a short in one of atmega32 pins that connected to LCD! Now it works great!!!! Thanks everybody to make it possible.

Well, now I have to struggle with the configuration. Hope I can remember all those combinations of buttons to access all the features.

I am having problems with the hihat. It appears fully opened in the LCD, and, to be able to start seeing it closing I have to step the pedal nearly to the end, so the range of openness is only a bit portion of all the hihat possibilities.

Your simple variable resistor hihat is your Roland VH-11 ? Chose standard input.
Did you adjust High and Low levels for HiHat pedal ?

But even if i set correctly the high level, when i start stepping the pedal I only see it moving in the LCD when I have steped more than a half of its range. THis means I only have pedal activity from less than 10KOhm to 0 ohm (the minimum level is set quite correctly)

I have opened midi ox and selected megadrum as midi input to see a log.

When I move the pedal I cannot see the CC data.

Another problem is that when I hit the snare or the hihat, or step the pedal, I get loads and loads of repetitive midi note on and off. With one single hit in a pad I get even 15 notes on and 15 notes off.

Try connecting your pedal to an alternative pedal input, pin 33 of Atmega, over a 100R-330R resistor and setting AltIn to 'Yes' in the menu.

You have to set the pedal type as F.Contr

Too low thresholds on inputs? Did you try to change any settings?
