Multi-piezo cymbal, thoughts?

Postby GreasyBumpkin » Thu Mar 12, 2020 3:09 pm

I'm using metal cymbals and I'm finding that even with gain up to 8 I just can't get vel127 hits anywhere other than directly over the project box on the underside.

I'm thinking maybe I ought to wire up more pickups to broaden the range?

So a risk would be false triggers, but, and please correct me if I'm wrong, sound travels roughly 1m per ms, so if pickups are 6inches apart on a 14" cymbal, retrigger set to something like 5ms then that issue should be fixed?

Hi GreasyBumpkin.
if you wire 3 piezos in parallel they behave like one ...
don't worry about latency - that's not a problem.
The positioning is much more crucial and the difficult thing.
Since you have to test a lot and should fix the piezo arrangement only after success...

If you cannot get a good signal from the piezo then as far as I can see there is a problem with mechanical conversion. Even a finger flick on a piezo produces too strong signal from a piezo.

Hi been using Metal cymbals for over two years see this post (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4007) like Dmitri suggests you need to look elsewhere in you issue, finding a way to dull the vibration was a bigger problem.
