Please keep us informed on how you do it. I think the optical route is definitely the best way. I will do one when I build my Megadrum. The Alesis module that I have doesn't support a variable hat.

Dmitri, do you have a schematic for the one you built? This thread has got me interested. I had read about that optical controller on the eDrum website, but like elrules I wasn't sure if it was variable or not.

elrules, I just had another even simpler idea if you are doing an acoustic conversion. Instead of using the hinged apparatus in my other post you could simply put the optical sensors on either side of the center bar, and put an optical barrior on the bar itself. You may get too much movement from this idea though now that I think about it. Oh well.

It looks very simple and good but I was wondering if it is not influenced by external light. Don't you need to insulate the photoi sensor from ambiant luminosity ?
