I received my v2.8 kit yesterday from Synthex. As many have noted, the shiping was fast (a little more than a week from France to Rhode Island, USA) and the quality appears to be top-notch. I want to voice an additional request for good pictures of a populated v2.8 board. Please!

Synthex-
For myself and others who have bought the v2.8 kit, could you please verify:
1. On the PCB, "ICSP Atmega32" & "ICSP 18F2550" do not need to be used (for programming chips)
2. "Encoders" is only for those who use knobs instead of buttons and otherwise need no connection
3. "EXT" is for use with an optional 16 input daughter card and otherwise need no connection

Also, I understand where the USB type B connector is installed on the board, but what are the 4 contacts below this position used for?

Just a quick note. Due to the server move, Synthex is still being directed to an old site so is not able to answer questions right now.

First, it is ISP for Atmega, not ICSP. You don't need to use them since Synthex's kits come with preprogrammed MCUs.

Correct.

3. "EXT" is for use with an optional 16 input daughter card and otherwise need no connection

Correct.

I guess it's for connecting a USB socket if it is not soldered on the board.

I believe that all you will need is:
1. An enclosure of some sort to house the megadrum
2. Jacks of your choice, i.e. rca, 1/4 phone jacks or any other that you choose.
3. If you choose to go with the 1/4 phone jacks then you may want to make the v1.8 jacks pcb so that you don't have a bunch of wires cluttering up your enclosure.
4. cables that match the jacks you choose to go to your e-drums.
5. USB cable to connect the megadrum to your computer

Thanks jman 31! So if i used rca jacks then it'd be cleaner?

No. If you use RCA jacks you will have to run wire to every one of the jacks. If you use the 1/4" phone jacks you can make the PCB's and then just plug a ribbon cable into it. This is the cleanest option in my opinion.

Stereo 1/4 phone jacks are most often used.

Thanks guys. This would be the biggest thing I've ever made, I basically just know how to solder haha :D . This ought to be a fun adventure!
