I see that now Dmitri, but then why have the two links? If you're gonna give the correct configuration for the cable further down the document, why bother giving a link to show where you got your information? Ok Granted a more experienced technician would have known how to interpret and modify the 6 pin diagram for a 5 pin connector, but the average DIYer with no background in electronics would easily get confused. I concider myself a pretty smart guy when it comes to most things, but I'm affraid I'm quite uneducated in the field of electronics. I'm sure that anybody would agree that searching for information on your site is not that simple. Yes all the information is there, but you have to sort through many posts to find what you need, and your Search feature doesn't work very well.

Bottom line, I have made the cable correctly, but am still unable to read or write to the atmega32 even though the ponyprog can probe the board with success.

I will try and replace the 16mhz crystal and see if it helps, otherwise I'll be sending the board to synthex for diagnostic. I've been in Florida for the past month and haven't had access to a windows PC, I'm on a macbook pro. So before I sent it back I wanted to take one last shot at bringing the MD back to life.

One thing I'd like to see, and hell, I'd contribute some work to getting it done, is to gather all the tidbits from the forum that are now "common knowledge" among those who read the forum every day but will take a while for people to find if they've just started reading. The way the forum search function ignores so many of the important words you need makes using the search function difficult.

So I'm putting it out there, I'm willing to help improve the documentation. Just give me a little direction and I'll start compiling information from the forum into a document.

You are probably right about "common knowledge" but as far as I can see the main jeffbeckib's problem is not due to lack of documentation.
Even if required info is there, as in the example I showed in my previous post, jeffbeckib is not seeing even after reading/looking at it. Or am I wrong?

You still didn't see the difference. And it has nothing to do with electronics. In the first quotation I gave credits and in the second I gave an instruction.
Sorry jeffbeckib, I'm afraid I'm out of my capacity to give you any more help. I hope somebody else on the forum will be happy to help you.

Ok, that's fine. But you still need to have better documentation, and you certainly need to improve your skills when helping others who aren't as smart as you....

Hopefully synthex will get this working for me.

Thanks for trying

BTW, why am I still not getting email notification when somebody sends me a message?

I agree, but I still feel the documentation is not organized properly.
