[quote="Rubis"]The Cat5 would work for a break out box with the other 24 inputs. The extension connector is 8 pins. Cat5 is 8 wires, so it can effectively extend the extension port. The 24 inputs would be handled in the second box, you just have to include the board in with the jacks.

On paper it works, but in reality there are many noises,
because it mixes digital lines and analog lines in the same cable ...

Here is the new (and I hope the last) Jacks PCB :
Jacks_PCB_32i.gif

It can use Stereo Dual Stacked Jacks or Stereo Single Jacks ! :)

I will make the same for the 24 inputs connector.

So thanks to @all

Again I am looking for a solution with just one cable/connector to connecting simple the breakout-box with the main module. I can not believe that there is no way for this and nobody ask before to this  Please help.

Any suggestions of what one could use then to wire the extension to a breakout box? Needs to be a quick disconnect from megadrum 32 to a 24 input breakout box. Thanks

now I'm confused, are you saying that if I replace the atmega32 with an atmega644 I would get an extra 24 inputs from an 8 pin connector? That is, assuming I can simply replace the atmega with an atmega644 and still have a functioning MD. sorry if this is a stupid question.

Rubis wrote:@Trommeltotti and jeffbeckib

Both wrong. Jeffbeckib, you are correct if using an ATmega32, but with ATmega644 you get an extra 24, not 8.

The Cat5 would work for a break out box with the other 24 inputs. The extension connector is 8 pins. Cat5 is 8 wires, so it can effectively extend the extension port. The 24 inputs would be handled in the second box, you just have to include the board in with the jacks.

Cat5 would not work for the main 32 inputs though. This would only be for the 24 extra inputs.

@kurtus420

Oooh, tough call...

You can use all that you want.
But you need to use shielded cable for each input.

meaning six individually shielded cables from the extenstion on v2.8 pcb board to the daughter board? I can get 2 and 3 conductor shielded cable but not individually shielded, can the analog and digital be wired seperatly using 2) 3 conductor shielded cables?
What pins on the extension are analog and which ones are digital? Would rca wire be suffice as a single shielded cable ( single conductor with a braid used for gound ) Thanks and sorry for all the questions Synthex ;)

EXT Connector :
1 - VCC
2 - GND
3 - ADC4 (analog)
4 - ADC5 (analog)
5 - ADC6 (analog)
6 - PB0 (digital)
7 - PB1 (digital)
8 - PB2 (digital)

1, 2, 6, 7, 8 can be in the same shield.
3, 4, 5 must be individually shielded.
