I have tried measuring the voltages with the boxes checked and unchecked and the results are +3.6V on pin 28, +5.8V on pin 27, and my multi tester is going the opposite way when measuring on pin 26. These are the results whether the boxes are checked or not. Do you think I need to try the com ports on winpic up to COM16?
dmitri wrote:Also, are you sure that your com port is OK? You could have damaged it with the previous attempt. Can you test it with something else, e.g. a modem?
I connected my Nokia 6210 on the same com port and its communicating with the computer just fine.

My results:

Vpp checked -> pin 26 = +5
Vpp unchecked -> pin 26 = -0.5V

Clock checked -> pin 27 = +5
Clock unchecked -> pin 27 = -0.5v

Data (to PC) checked -> pin 28 = +3.6V
Data (to PC) unchecked -> pin 28 = -0.5V

You should get similar readings.

I'm not getting the same results. As I posted before, my results are:

Vpp checked -> pin 26 = -?
Vpp unchecked -> pin 26 = -?

Clock checked -> pin 27 = +5.8V
Clock unchecked -> pin 27 = +5.8V

Data (to PC) checked -> pin 28 = +3.6V
Data (to PC) unchecked -> pin 28 = +3.6V

I tried adjusting the COM settings in the BIOS and I activated COM2 which is actually a PCI modem slot on my motherboard. I also noticed that when I change from COM ports, when I go back to COM1, there is an error "Error in SetIntf(): Cannot open COM port". See screenshot below.

Incidentally, I also installed winpic800 and its giving me the same error of not being able to open my COM port.

I have the idea of building this simple programmer http://www.foxdelta.com/products/art2003.htm to save me from more troubles. It has few components too, what do you think?

It appears you cannot make WinPic to control the COM port properly on your computer. Nokia software suite might be interfering. I'd suggest you to try WinPIC on another computer first. I won't be able to help you with WinPic800 as I don't use it.

I uninstalled the Nokia software suite and tried programming the PIC again and resulted in another programming failed message. But what was strange was my computer suddenly detected a new USB device and started installing drivers for it. Here are the some screen shots:

New USB Audio device:

Its properties: (Megadrum)

I also tried reading the PIC and comparing the CODE read from the hex code when I opened it and it appears to be the same. Do you suppose I have finally programmed my PIC?

Uhmmm, as Dmitri stated, my phone software was interfering with the COM port so I just uninstalled it and I was able to program my PIC.

As of now the TD12 still sounds better to me. Megadrum is giving me double triggers on my diy toms while TD12 isn't even when both are running sounds of Superior drummer. Also I can't get decent sounding rolls on my snare while TD12 sounds almost real. Haven't compared it with my e-drum yet though. But I'm still not giving up hopes on my megadrum. I'm hoping to dial in on the correct settings to get maximum playability. Because my pads are also diy, they behave differently when used on different modules/TMI.

About the rolls. It would be useful if you could make three records (midi files) of a free bouncing stick starting with the first hit and until the stick has come to rest with MegaDrum, TD12 and Edrum. The reason I'm asking is that when doing rolls on a Pintech 10" snare pad MegaDrum with my current settings is at least as good as Edrum (can't compare to TD12) .
