Today I got a rhh135 hi-hat and I have been trying to make it work via megadrum for hours without success. I connected it with stereo cables and I get a signal for the pad itself but absolutely nothing from the controller. Also the hi-hat ctrl vu meter doesn't move at all.

Can anybody think of a reason why it wouldn't work?

(Before this I had a Roland FD-8 and it worked just fine)

Since you didn't mention any settings you were using I can only suggest to look at viewtopic.php?p=15063#p15063

Thank you for the quick reply, I just followed your advice in the post you linked (setting low/high to 299/300 and then using the autolevelfunction, I had no idea you have to set some "orientation values" before being able to properly use autolevels) At least I can now be sure that thing is not broken, because it finally does some kind of controlling i.d. opening and closing of the hi-hat is not completely resultless anymore ...

Now I will try and get better results by doing some fine tuning to the settings .. :-)

Okay unfortunately I'm still far away from getting the wanted result, but now maybe you can help me better because I know a little bit about the values ...

After "autoleveling" megadrum set the highlvl value at something just over 800 (lowlvl still being at 299). So now I get a closed sound when hitting the pad in down position but when hitting it in up position it is only half open. No matter how I change the highlvl value, it stays like this. Any more advice?

So even if you set HighLevel to 300 you still don't get fully open HiHat?

No. I installed midi-ox to check the notes. When I press down the pedal hard and then hit the pad I get 42 (closed). But in every other position of the pedal, I get 46 (half-open) I just can't get any 43 notes ...

EDIT: I also tried to change all the hi-hat midi notes according to the superior drummer 2 mapping like it is told in the megadrum-wiki for sd 2 (bow 19, edge 18) but then, well, in midi-ox there is just 19 and in superior drummer 2 I only hear the fully open sound :?

Oh no, stop, that last thing might just be the solution! With the notes changed I let megadrum autolevel again and now it is almost working ... I'm sorry for bothering you, now I think I have to try and continue tuning the settings by myself for a bit. Thank you so far, I'll get back to work now :)

Ok so now I think I have at least an idea of how to configure the hi-hat controlling, but there is yet another problem to solve ...

For the closed hi-hat notes I have to press down the pedal really hard, simply putting my foot on the pedal (how it should be) doesn't make the controller realize it should be closed. I checked on the Big VU meter: I start pressing the pedal a bit and then I apply more and more pressure. Nothing happens at first but as soon as I press it down really hard, the VU meter goes immediately from 100 to 0 without anything in between ...

So basically I am unable to play the hi-hat closed without applying unnaturally much pressure to the pedal, also it is nearly impossible to get proper half open notes like this.

Is there a possibility to increase sensitivity or someting like that? I have no idea how to handle that one ...

Btw, as far as I understand, RHH-135 is not fully variable but rather has only 2 intermediate positions.
