Well it's been quite a while since I have posted as far as my build is concerned, but my latest success has been building a hi hat controller using a regular hi hat stand. The installation takes place under the foot pedal which makes for a cleaner look in my opinion.
Here are the components I used to build this:
1 Hi hat stand (I used Ludwig and lucked out it had a magnet on the bottom because the chain wraps underneath the foot pedal)
1 stereo jack (I used this jack http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-st ... LUG/1.html except in 1/4")
2 magnets

1 Project Box http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-st ... .67/1.html
1 Hall effect sensor http://www.newark.com/allegro-microsyst ... =lookahead
Double sided tape
Hot glue gun (optional)
The jumper settings for the pedal were B,C,C according to this post. viewtopic.php?p=12815#p12815
Wiring the hall effect sensor to the stereo jack is as follows - viewtopic.php?p=12572#p12572

The result produces excellent sensitivity and range from the open to closed position.
