hi hat woes

Postby ddropski » Sat Aug 16, 2014 3:54 am

im trying to get the hihat working and had a few questions as I look at the documentation

1) do I have to set notes for every stage to the hihat pedal (all 14)

2) how do I tell the pedal which cymbal is my hihat ?

3) when using bfd2 which hi hat sounds do I need to "learn" that mega drum will use?

thank you

Hi!

I just saw your mail...but it is maybe easier to help you out this way:

1. It depends on BDF2...if it can handle cc:04 and dynamically can pick sounds from your cy12 input when you hit bow/edge. Most softwares can do this. Both ways work...mapp all entry's or let BDF2 do the work.

2. On the pedal panel and misc in MDM...you have the hi hat input channel. This is where you select which input that you have the hi hat cymbal pads connected to. Normally it is connected to input 2.
It is important to set the pedal type to footctr...and the cc channel to 4 to get it to send the information. Check in bdf2 that it is receive cc pedal data on channel 4. Looking on what is sent over midi...when hitting the hi hat cymbal...first it sends the cc 4 pedal position and then immediatly the cymbal note (bow or edge) together with the velocity.

3. Same as question 1...it depends. I prefer to let the software to determine the hi hat hits.

4. I think I saw a screenshot from the other posts where the CY-12 was configured as piezo on the edge channel....I do believe the CY-12 has a switch on the edge....

thank you sir I will use some of the info you gave me to try it out ... it just seems I should be seeing something in the open/closed section in the visual in mdm ,,,

when I used to configure my td-9 I would only have to go to midi learn in bfd it would tell me a note and I would hit the part of the hihat I wanted make that note (usually I only hit hihat open and the prdal just knew what to do with the sound

I do have 04 messages sent from the pedal

what determines how much of the pedal is used right now its only using a tiny part of the pedal when up I see a tiny line when closed it dissepears it goes from cc127 to cc125

also when you set up your hihat cymbal with the midi learn function on your drum program (addictive, bfd, superior ect) what "sounds" do you learn to your cymbals (which ones matter?"

I shut everything down now im getting the pedal to show half of the graph but its triggering like crazy bouncing between 45 to 60 if that normal? ... and im still only hearing the hihat open sound when the hihat is closed... how do I tell it to change the sound to the hihat closed sound I tried bfd...superior..and addictive I do get the chick sound if I press the pedal down

Set the hi hat reduction level to 3 on the pedal/misc settings to get rid of the bouncing.

Bring down the hi hat high level if you only see half of pedal value.
