How to build a compact and flexible megadrum module?

Hi there,

I've got my megadrum kit now and I would like to start building a drum module, but I'm very new to this topic.

First of all I figured out some objectives for my module:
1) It should be a compact box, not too large, not too heavy.
2) It should be flexible in usage.

Now my reflections about those objectives:
To 1)
I would like too not use those typical large jacks to connect the piezos to the module, but maybe a multiple (56) pin connector. Is this a good idea? Could you recommend a connector to use?

I would really appreciate if you could give me some advice on how to go ahead now with my kit. What to do next? What to pay special attention?

Thats a good idea with the connector, that is one thing i wish I had done.

The problem I see with that is that you end up with very thin and vulnerable cables going to your pads. Also, ideally they should be shielded - if you assemble it all and run into problems because of that it will be a real pain in the arse. What about 3.5mm jacks?

That's a good point with the shielding and the vulnerable cables, I didn't think about that.

I thought about those 3.5mm jacks, but it's still quite space consuming. Is there maybe a sustainable solution that still enables a compact design? A robust connector? By the way, I'm not yet sure whether to build more a drum kit like trigger or better a finger drum device. I think rather a finger drum...

And is it really necessary to have this shielding for the piezos wiring?

Another question comes to my mind. Do you have a good idea for a nice and easy to build case? Is there maybe a provider that offers an easy case construction kit?

With a finger drum device I don't think you really need shielded wires - I think it becomes a problem with long cables going out to external pads. If you're making a finger drum, you could house the electronics inside it, no need for a case, unless you're asking about a case for the finger drum itself - wouldn't know about that.

I found a 50 pin connector. Is it possible/recommendable to connect the trigger inputs too this type of connector?

My plan is to build the module with a 50-pin connector to facilitate a comfortable plug for any kind of trigger interface.

Yesterday I found some time to solder 50 pads from the megadrum to the connector. After that I soldered some 4 piezos to the other part of the connector. And I'm quite happy that it's working!

By the way, could you give me some advice how to attach the parts from the megadrum kit to the plastic case that I bought? Is it just hot glue that is used commonly?

I will tell you as soon that I have some progress...
