My friend has a Yamaha DTXtreme kit and is thinking about getting this module. Any idea if those pads are any easier to configure than these roland rubber pads?

ignotus wrote:You can connect the TD-7 to Megadrum's MIDI in and use the "MIDI through" function - it will just pass on the MIDI information it receives. However, before you do that, I'd have another go at setting up the Roland pads with MD. I think the main problem is a lack of understanding of how the parameters work to set the pads up - once you get the hang of it the rest will be easy and you'll have learned a bit more about the module that will come in handy for the future.

Pretty much any rubber pads should be easy to configure. I'm not really sure why you are having problems configuring Roland rubber pads. It seems either you skipped on reading the MegaDrum Configuration Documentation or the Documentation is misleading/lucking somewhere in which case I will need your input on what is misleading or lucking so that I could correct that.

All the parameters described in the MegaDrum Configuration Documentation are available in MDMFX. the MegaDrum Configuration Documentation is the ultimate source of information about all the parameters and it doesn't matter if you use MDMFX or configure it from a front panel of the module.

By Older Version of editing tool, I mean that when I search the forum for settings in DrumManager as used by other users, they are always using the older version of DrumManager and the parameters don't match what I have in DrumManagerFX.

Pretty much all parameters in MDM and MDMFX are the same. Those which don't match are probably newer parameters due to requirements for newer firmware version and not available in MDM since it was succeeded by MDMFX.

I've been reading the pad setup post and most of it makes sense, some doesn't, but I did see parameters that seem to effect why my single stroke rolls are choppy and missing hits.
I'm just surprised I can't find anybodys posting of their successful Roland pd-8 pad settings. I found 2 that tried, one of which was the first screenshot I attached which had the 0 midi note for the rim/edge, then I tried another for the PD-8 with resistor, no different. I've tried swapping out the stereo cables connecting to the pads to rule out any cable issues etc. no change.

This is probably because almost nobody had problems configuring rubber pads before.

To be honest I haven't even used the front panel of MD as my rackmount doesn't sit close to the kit, but I can fix that. I did read some of the documentation, but again, I tried applying the settings in DrumManagerFX and not the unit itself. I will try that next. I will say that part of the configuration documentation in Pad Settings was a little confusing to me, as it describes the parameter, but not always clear on how it will effect the playability. I personally found DynLevel and MinScan difficult to understand. I do know that on my dual zone piezo cone diy drums I am struggling with not being able to play fast single stroke rolls as it misses many hits completely, and I know these settings have an effect on that, I'm just not clear on how they should be set, or how a higher or lower number translates into performance.
I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in time.

perhaps certain parameters aren't visible unless certain options are selected? I don't see B note or AB, MB note. Does something else need to be toggled for those settings to appear?
Things like DualMidpoint are now simply Midpoint etc. I'm assuming these are referring to the same paramaters.

I guess I'm the lucky sole person having issues with rubber pads, lucky me.

To see all settings in MDMFX go to Main->Options, select Misc tab and check 'Show Advanced Settings'. Before you, people complained that MDM and MDMFX was showing too many settings and I was advised to hide less important settings in MDMFX by default.

Lol See, now how was I supposed to know that? , I would probably agree, less is better on the main screen..

so doing this I got head trigger and rim when I squeeze, but not when I strike the rim.

lrizzo2001 wrote:These settings produce no sound at all, not head or rim, the only way I get sound is to change the Head to 3way roland
But according to your last post, you are getting the head to respond with it set as Dual. What you have to do now is find the right threshold setting for the rim. Are you doing that randomly? Starting with threshold at 0 and gain at 4 (rim), raise threshold 1 by 1 while squeezing or hitting the edge of the pad until you get a signal from it.

Apparently I've been on advanced settings all along, and I still don't see those parameters.

So the Threshold on the edge is still too low.

What don't you see? "B note or AB, MB note"? From https://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings

PadName->BNote (only available on Rim/Edge inputs):

<Ch04: SnareR >
BNote: C#3 49

For piezo/switch/switch 3 zones pdas/cymbals: Note number for the 3rd zone of a 3 zone Yamaha style pad/cymbal.

Do you see "3rd Zone" setting in MDMFX? Do you see 'Note' there?
