No, it's the same design but with a different MCU architecture.

A bit of warning on building using these MCUs - they do require a real programmer, like Pickit 2 or ICD2, rather than just a few wires. And I mentioned 'for adventurous' in the topic for a reason - both pic24 and pic32mx MCUs are SMD packages only with very small lead pitches. But It's doable:) I'll post the pictures later today with my development boards.

At present, there is no advantage in pure drumming performance with any of these MCUs.
