Megadrum Gallery -- Front/rear panel templates for Hammond c

Postby stpope » Sat Apr 18, 2009 10:08 am

Hello all,

With many thanks to Dimitri & Synthex, I have a new MegaDrum up and running!

I used a Hammond plastic case (model 1598GSGY, US$16 from Allied Electronics, alliedelec.com), and some cheap Neutrik NYS2343 jacks for the rear.

I also made the front and rear panels using FrontPanelDesigner, which means you can have them custom made cheap (in the US or Europe). (See http://www.frontpanelexpress.com)

Here are the templates:

Here's the rear panel with my funky lettering and jacks that were smaller than the holes (i.e., not lined up very well).

Here's the internal wiring of the input jacks

Here's the "money shot" of it working.

And here are the FrontPanelDesigner files for others to customize (you can down-load the editor app. for free (Windows-only).

Enjoy!

Would the spacing between holes be the same as for the input jacks board? I know it doesn't cover all the holes, but would it be a good guide for that? Also, how much did those plates cost you? It looks very nice.

EDIT: Nevermind, they are too close together. Hope mine looks that nice when I finally finish it.

I don't use the standard input boards because I have 3 rows of 6 instead of 2 rows of 8 input plugs.
Yes, the spacing is the same as the input board (made for the Neutrik NYS216 TRS jacks).

The manufacturing of the panels was about US$ 30 each.

Feel free to use my FrontPanelDesigner files as templates; the design program is free, but it can only order the consrtuction from FrontPanel Express.

I tried printing the jacks panel from FrontPanelDesigner, but the spacing seemed tighter than my inputs board. I'll play with the settings to see if I can get it to print the right size. I am only using 6 of the inputs on my boards, so not having the last two doesn't really matter much to me. If I need the last 3 auxilliary ports I can add them later. After looking at the pics again, the jacks seem a bit more separated than on the input boards, so I don't think I can use it as a template.

These look really nice, but I don't think I can justify $30 each when I have a drill press and some left over lexan and sheet metal from my last project (DDR pad).

I should correct -- I *think* the spacing's the same as the input board.

I don't have the input board, but looked at the PDF file of the layout and it appeared that the Neutrik NYS216 jacks were tightly spaced.

Yeah, I printed it wrong the first time. Your's is a little looser than the inputs board.

Hi Everybody,

I have now nearly finished my Megadrum controller thanks to Dmitri's patience and here, as threatened, are some pics. I will post better quality ones soon if anyone's interested.

The case in a previous life was a radio microphone reciever, the green display on the right is part of that. I left it in in preference to leaving a hole.
