help trying to update firmware

Postby kurtus420 » Wed Jun 17, 2009 7:34 pm

I have followed the instructions to the tee for loading megadrum firmware and it took several trys to get it to send the erase_firmware.syx file to my megadrum now it wont send the firmware update. Here is what I have done

Synthex v2.8 kit 3 v4 secure

I have plugged megadrum in and have no issues what so ever with my vista laptop recognizing it.
powered on holding left key and entering firmware update screen.
opened midi ox and configured midi ox to 60000 for the output buffer, leaving everything else at default setting.
selected megadrum usb device as the output in midiox.
selected 16mhz in megadrum for atmega32
press down and the midi light lights up, screen shows send sysex now
go into command window in midi ox an load erase_firmware.syx and send it, after several tries it finally sent but now it wont send the firmware update.
Midiox stopped responding and my megadrum is hooked up still showing erased

Thanks for any advise

Are you using Synthex's USB firmware? If yes, then read http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtop ... 77&start=0
Before going any further, make the changes as described in the second post of http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=268

Is the firmware update required when adding the resistor? I'm using Synthex's usb firmware.

I guess I have a problem then because I own a laptop not a pc tower so I don't know how I'm going to program the pic.
I'm confused though, I'm not having any issues with the megadrum connecting to my laptop via usb.

If you tried the update procedure on other PCs/laptops and followed to the letter with the same outcome, then following my suggestion with replacing USB firmware and making the changes to the schematic is the only way forward. I use only my USB firmware version and haven't had any USB problems since I switched from Synthex's version. I'm sure you can find a friend with a PC/serial port to program PIC18F2550.

I'm not experiencing any issues. I used to have some instability issues with Synthex's firmware described in http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=268

It must be selected only as an output MIDI in MIDI-OX.
